...0r are you a shop looking for a way to place electronic orders with a supplier, without the need of installing an EPoS system. SPEDI Connect can provide this.

SPEDI Software developed the "SPEDI Protocol" which has been widely used by stores to place orders with their wholesalers, and over ten million orders have been sent successfully in this way. We have used this experience to design a new simple low-cost method of exchanging relevant data using broadband links.

The business case for this is strong. Convenience stores need to present an attractive image to their customers, and are turning to specialist and local suppliers to provide products that set them apart from the multiples. The increased paperwork can present a major administrative problem, and this is where SPEDI Connect will help.

SPEDI Connect transmits data. The commercial relationship between the supplier and store must be negotiated directly.

In the store

The software displays information about all the suppliers who use SPEDI Connect. The store can select appropriate suppliers and arrange a trading relationship. The store will then receive the latest price list and can create orders. The orders are transmitted to the supplier who responds with an acknowledgement, which should be an accurate delivery note.

The benefits to the store are:

• simplicity - all suppliers are treated in the same way; it is not necessary to navigate many different web sites
• speed - orders are faster to create than using web sites, fax or phone
• specific help - the system will remember previous orders, may have standard orders, and can provide order history
• acknowledgements - this should effectively be a delivery note, to be used when the goods are received
• security - the system is more secure than web-based functions
• links to EPoS systems - the data is available for import and export to EPoS and store management systems.

The store software is free.

For the supplier

The supplier software can either be run stand-alone, or used to exchange data with an existing order-management system. It is purchased from a SPEDI dealer, who will help with the installation and interface to existing systems. The dealer may call upon support from SPEDI Software, who have worked with a wide range of systems.

The supplier software authorises relationships with stores, distributes price files, receives orders, and sends out order acknowledgements.

The benefits to the supplier are:

The supplier purchases the software from an authorised dealer. There is a small charge (less than a postage stamp) payable for each order received using the system.
